The JAG ARMS Scattergun

The JAG ARMS Scattergun

With its 3 or 6 round burst, and satisfying gameplay feel, the Jag Arms Scattergun is a formidable gun both in the arena, and on the open field.

The Gen 2 Scattergun series is overall impressive, with its new re-worked internals, the latest lineup boasts a variety of different styles to suit anyone’s gameplay, or loadout. This article will be specifically speaking on the Jag Arms Scattergun HDS Gas Shotgun, a Remington 870 replica that is very true to form.

Coming out of the box, the shotgun is wonderfully packaged, containing:

  • A Clear Speedloader
  • 3 Clear shells
  • A Standard Unjamming Rod
  • JAGs 30 day warranty
  • The Gun Itself

Coming in at (INSERT WEIGHT) and firing anywhere from 300-330 FPS (Depending on shot count) using Tokyo Marui spec 28 round shells, the HDS is a joy to play with. The Shotgun itself has a full metal receiver, and barrel, with Polymer grip and stock, with picatinny rail mounted on top for all of your red dot needs.

With a removable reservoir for green gas hidden in the butt of the gun, rapid changing of gas is possible on the field, granted that you are willing to carry the (WEIGHT) of an extra reservoir with you. The reworked internals on the Gen 2 guns are made to put aside the concerns of gas leaking out of the gun faster than a speedsofter racing up the arena to rest.

MY EXPERIENCE

I personally bought this shotgun at the 2019 airsoft expo, along with a variety of other guns (reviews coming soon!) and had, interesting? Experiences with it. Out of the box, the gun was fantastic, I can’t tell you how often I racked the action to hear that satisfying sound (it really does scratch the itch, unlike a spring shotgun would). The first issue I would have though, happened directly out of the box. Without being pressed down (with force) the detachable reservoir wasnt engaging properly, and was leaking gas, fast. This issue was solved by spraying the O ring with some silicon oil to rehydrate the rubber.

The nearest Tuesday, i brought it out to Tac City to play with. The first 2 rounds went fantastic, the 3rd, the shotgun went down for the night. I could rack the gun, BBs would just fall out of the barrel, and the trigger was not engaging to fire, and the handguard wasn’t locking after bbs were loaded

Having absolutely no clue how to work on the gun, I went about it my normal way, take it apart, and figure it out. After diagnosing the issue, and realizing I was totally out of my depth, i called JAG.

This is where that 30 day warranty comes in handy, I contacted the technicians over at Jag, which was a very seamless, and fast process, and brought the gun over personally after a few exchanged emails. Within 3 days, I had my shotgun repaired, tested, and got some goodies in the package when I picked it up.

Although, after having repeated issues with the reservoir on my model, I switched out to the CQB Russian tap adapter, and run it off a small HPA bottle. This removes the need to refill the reservoir, and any leakage issues that occur with said part.

WRAP UP AND RATING

Presentation

  • A SOLID 9/10
  • The presentation is fantastic,  from the heft to the sound, this feels like a proper shotgun from top to bottom. The orange tip is very easily removed, making it look proper. Only issue I have is the plastic on the buttock and handgrip looks, too plastic, if that makes sense.
  • Comes packed in a sleek box, with the added speedload being an unexpected surprise.

Build quality

  • 7/10
  • The gun itself is well put together, but still has technical failings, that, while easily repaired, still exist with the scattergun lineup.
  • The stock wobbles, but does not flex
  • Stock feels lightweight when lacking reservoir (although it Is designed to have the reservoir)

Performance

  • 8.5/10
  • The gun runs surprisingly well, reaching out to distances unexpected for a 3/6 shot burst, it can run alongside AEGs, as long as you’re not counting rps.
  • Would highly advise using a minimum of .25g bbs
  • Slam fires nicely.

Compatibility

  • 9/10
  • Being able to use any Tokyo Marui spec shells and most parts is a fantastic feature of this gun
  • The ability to easily HPA this gun is a shining feature that should, in my opinion, be immediately upgraded to.

All in, the JAG Scattergun is, in my opinion, a fun and endearing addition to any arsenal,  and a great way to change up your playstyle.
